Investigation of Precious Corals Including Corallium and Black Corals An investigation of the Corallium and Black Corals potential of the Tuvalu area was proposed at the 13th Annual Session of the SOPAC Governing Council. In order to do so, it was recommended that there be a compilation and review of all bathymetric data should be preceded by dredging, underwater photography and scuba diving surveys. The compilation and reviewing of existing geological data was completed. Minerals (M) Assessment 1985
Delineation of sediment in time and space The purpose of the project was to delineate distribution of sediment bodies of different ages and produce stratigraphic and isopach maps of the region. Also to establish from detailed stratigraphic analysis of the various sedimentary bodies ( facies relationships, paleoenvironments, sediment provenance). Project was proposed in the 9th Session & revised in the 12th Session. Uncategorised (UC) Assessment 1984
Assessment of Lagoon Aggregate Resources Upolu A SOPAC- study on aggregate resources of Vaiusu Bay, Upolu was completed some years ago along with coastal mapping of the whole island. A resurvey of the island and an assessment of mining activities has been requested. Aggregates (A) Assessment 2000
Source rock sampling and assessment from major formations between Santo and Malekula and across the Central Basin to Maewo and Pentecost Minerals and Hydrocarbons (MHC) Assessment 1985
Geotechnical Evaluation of On-shore Aggregate in Pohnpei Due to the varied nature of construction activities in Pohnpei and the FSM (both coastal and on-land) and the high demand for construction material, it is necessary that such evaluations be conducted, so as to minimise the construction and environmental risks associated with using these alternative sources of construction material. Previously, complete geotechnical evaluation of the rock types and aggregate of Pohnpei has not been done. Therefore, this study is timely, as it can comment of the specific application and suitability of the various rock types onland, as an alternative to reef aggregate mining, for the construction engineering industry. Coastal Processes (CP) Assessment 1999
Costal Development - Geological Hazards To assist member countries, with the help of its technical advisors, monitor developments in hazard-risk assessment and hazard warning, understand the degree of risk they face, and improve their individual warning systems Hazards (H) Assessment 1987
Solar Hot Water Efficiency Monitoring This project was established in Tonga and Fiji to measure and compare the actual in service efficiency of imported and locally constructed solar hot water systems against the manufacturer's specifications. This activity has been implemented following the preparation of an economic template, which provides a cost comparison based on per cubic metre of hot water available from either solar, LPG or electrical water heaters in domestic service. Energy (E) Assessment 1998
Fisheries Resource Assessment Guam surveys by the National Marine Fisheries Service are continuing. The Resource Assessment Investigation of the Mariana Archipelago (RAIOMA) was a 5-year program initiated by the Honolulu Laboratory of the National Marine Fisheries Service's Southwest Fisheries Center in 1980 to quantify the distribution and sustainable yield of insular fishery resources with commercial potential in the Mariana Archipelago. The main emphasis in the surveys is the assessment of fisheries resources and these include sampling for precious corals (Corallium and Antipathes). Uncategorised (UC) Assessment 1982
Assessing the offshore potential for placer gold, Yanawai River (continued). A substantive joint MRD-SOPAC field program in the third quarter of the year to assess the offshore potential for placer gold Yanawai River was completed. A database of bathymetry, high resolution seismic profiling, conductivity temperature and depth profiling provide the basis for a more complete environmental assessment of likely impacts associated with mining and logging in the lower reaches of the Yanawai river west of Savusavu Bay. Minerals (M) Assessment 1997
Minerals Development Onland mineral evaluation and assessment for Mobil Ion Geochemistry Minerals (M) Assessment 1997
