Application of high resolution space borne radar image data In January 2009 two large troughs of low pressure passed across Nadi resulting in extensive flooding.SOPAC ordered 3 metre resolution satellite radar data, which were downloaded 12 hours after recording. The processing of maps at 1:10,000 scale to show the flooded areas required 4½ days to prepare. Through new methods of radar analysis this could be reduced to about 2 hours. Equipment Maintenance, Servicing and Upgrade On-going maintenance, repair, servicing and upgrading of survey equipment to keep them in a state of readiness for deployment as and when required. The Program supports an Electronics Workshop and a Mechanical Workshop for repair and maintenance of survey equipment. Survey equipment needs to be maintained to a high standard, not only for accuracy, but also for reliability, as they undergo rugged treatment when they are freighted to member countries and operate under extreme conditions in the field. Tsunami Monitoring Stations The IOC Representative informed TAG of the work the International Coordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ITSU) and the International Tsunami Information Center (ITIC) in the region. Tsunami stations and communication stations were also established in the SOPAC member countries of Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, Kiribati, FSM, and Nauru. Although they are not yet member states of ITSU, FSM & Nauru respectively yet to be members of (CCOP/SOPAC) alongside the Marshall Islands at this stage. Hazards (H) Equipment 1987
