PEACESAT Hub Site Pan-Pacific Education and Communications Experiments by Satellite or PEACESAT is a successful noncommercial service that provides voice and data communications. It was established at SOPAC as a new link between the Secretariat and member countries. This project would provide a PEACESAT terminal at SOPAC HQ, information systems for Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam and Marshall Islands and connection for those countries as well as the eight ACP countries to their national PEACESAT terminals. Funding for a small 3-metre antenna PEACESAT station was approved by the US Department of State. Implementation of the Melanesian Volcanological Network The purpose of this activity is to set up the Volcanological Network in Melanesian Countries. The concept of the MVN was first developed at a meeting of country representatives hosted by SOPAC in 2007. The broad idea was to establish a sub-regional facility that: a) Supports capacity development in volcanological monitoring; b) provides essential equipment to conduct monitoring during times of significant volcanological activity with a view to informing emergency planning and response; and c)supports education and public awareness raising. Pacific Chapter of Internet Society-PICISOC Proposal for promoting Internet to schools and potential new internet users were approved by ISOC. Project was to generate content, publish brochures and distribute it to PICs schools. The purpose of the Pacific Chapter was to promote the use of the internet and raise awareness about it.
