Regional Maritime Boundaries Project

Maps, GIS coverage of data collected for all PICs with Regional Maritime Boundaries Database maintained and regularly updated. Review of data from baseline surveys to define maritime boundaries for selected PICs, with survey strategies developed for acquisition of data to fill gaps. Counterpart Training of selected nationals for in-field survey techniques, and initial surveys for five PICs where required (FJ,NU,NR,VU,TV) completed. Regional - Professional Development Programme for strengthening legal and negotiation skills of advocates for maritime boundary delimitation, all PICs; Workshop on Article 76, for selected PICs.

Project OutputTechnical Workshop on Article 76, Training Manual in conjunction with UNDOALOS, COMSEC, Feb 2005, Training in use of Marzone delimitation software: - September 2004 & April 2005, consultancy commissioned to identify data gaps with member states and develop survey strategies; actual field surveys to commence post Annual Session. Negotiation skills development workshop post Annual Session (Oct 3-7, 2005). PIROP ISA - Theme 1: Improve Governance of the Coasts and Ocean was relevant to taks undertaken under this activity.
